Working with us

Bikepacking Scotland was founded by Round the World Cyclist Markus Stitz in 2017. We  started to grow bikepacking and gravel cycling as an activity in Scotland, and have since worked successfully with a number of organisations to effectively market regions like Highland Perthshire, Argyll, East Lothian and the Scottish Borders as premium adventure cycling destinations.

We welcome you to look into those two publications, which were created as part of perthshiregravel.com and give a good insight into users and bikepacking as an activity.

Our focus is on developing great products and promoting them with inspiring content. We are passionate about Scotland and its unique access rights, and understand and deliver on the the needs of both clients and users.

Our clients include:

We have also offered consultancy & marketing services to the following organisations:

We are keen writers and photographers, with printed and online content commissioned and published in:

Here are examples of our work to showcase regions in Scotland as cycling destinations and what our clients have to say about the work.

Cateran Ecomuseum

‘Markus has been brilliant to work with. His expertise in Active Travel, his local, national and global networks and his exceptionally high production standards have really helped us raise our game and expand the horizons of what we can do in the future.’
Clare Cooper – Director, Cateran Ecomuseum

John Muir Way

‘It was a real pleasure to work with Markus on ‘Unhurried’. As well as his creativity and enthusiasm, he also brought a welcome degree of flexibility, which made it easy to use a very collaborative approach on this project. He understood and captured the essence of the John Muir Way very well and, just as importantly, followed that up by securing good coverage for the film.’ Gavin Morton, Green Action Trust

Perthshire Gravel Trails & Drovers Trail

‘Markus is a uniquely-qualified individual – globally-experienced cyclist, marketer, film-maker and photographer, web author and genuinely nice guy to work with. I’m looking forward to our next project already!’ Mike Stead – Trustee, Highland Perthshire Cycling

Go East Lothian Trail

‘It’s been such a great project to work on and thank you for leading us through it and of course for the outstanding end result.’ Elaine Carmichael, Visit East Lothian

Wild About Argyll Trail

‘AITC appointed Markus to work on developing a bikepacking trail in Argyll & The Isles late summer 2017, having first ‘met’ online when he did the SYHA project on the islands. Markus is passionate about bikepacking, and research is a core part of what he does with any project. He is very creative and films his own rides capturing the essence of each ride and the real sense of place. His marketing background is a real advantage for the work he does. He always has an eye on the future user and what will appeal to them. Markus is highly recommended.’ Carron Tobin, Development Manager, Argyll and the Isles Tourism Cooperative (Wild About Argyll)

The Reiver Raid

‘Working with Markus to develop the Reiver Raid in the Ale Water Valley has been a great experience. If you are prepared and able to work at the same breakneck speed as Markus, almost anything can be achieved. He has a great international network of contacts he can call on when needed. Every time he visits the area our social media show a spike.’ Teyl de Bordes, Vice-chair, Ale Water Valley Cooperative
